June Reading Wrap up & July TBR

June was a highly successful reading month for me, reading a total of 6 books. I seem to of fallen into a YA fantasy mood lately so other than my first book, they were all in this genre- plus most of my July TBR is also. As I have said previously, I am not normally one for setting a TBR as I’m very much a mood reader, and like to choose what I read when it comes to it. But I have decided to set a flexible TBR in order to keep myself focused…June Wrap UP

Best Boy…

This was an Arc I was sent from the lovely WW Norton, so thank you very much for this. I have written a full review for this, but just briefly- this was a novel told in the perspective of an autistic man as he went through situations at the care village where he lives. Its rather heart-warming seeing how much trust this man held in others, but upsetting to see the manipulation that others would wield over him. I gave this 4 out of 5 stars

This Savage Song…

Wow, well what do I say about this book? Well it is in the top 2 favourite books of the year for me easily. I wasn’t too sure what to expect, there was so much hype that I had to give it a shot but was very prepared to be let down. But it did not disappoint in the slightest! I will be doing a full review of this as it was a review copy sent from the amazing Titan books, but I must say it is hard to write a review for something so flawless. As you’ve probably guessed, I gave this 5 out of 5 stars.

Kindred Spirits…

I’m not going to say much about this, as it was just a quick little read for me to try out Rainbow Rowell’s writing. I must say I was not blown away- I gave this 3 out 5 stars

The Boy in Striped Pyjamas…

I read this believing it was on my 100 books challenge, but turns out I was wrong, but ha ho, only took me a day so not much time wasted. I was a little let down by this book, Id been told that it would have me crying and that it was an excellent children’s novel- but I found that it was just rather meh.. Although a very sad concept I didn’t feel the writing portrayed it to its fullest. That being said, it is a child’s book which probably explains it. I gave this 3 out of 5 stars.

Pretties…

This series is quickly becoming a little guilty pleasure of mine, its pretty predictable and very easy to read, but it just has me hooked! Although it had a little bit of slow paced section, it was generally very fast and forward moving. I can not wait to get my hands on the third novel. I gave this 4 out of 5 stars.

The Reptile Room…

Yet another series that I am adoring. I started of reading this for work, but have found myself really enjoying it and wanting to complete the series. Somehow this book has you laughing despite the awful unfortunate events that occur, and keeps you thinking about how they are going to get themselves out of each situation. Like the first of this series, I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars, little could make this book better.

July TBR

Right this is just a flexible TBR as I don’t like to limit myself, some of these books will definitely be read, but don’t be surprised if I deviate from this list. I think I am possibly being a little over ambious with this list as we are already half way through the month and I’m still on the first, but I guess we will see what happens.

‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ by Sarah J Maas… Ive been meaning to read this for a couple of months now and as it fits in the YA fantasy genre, I thought it was a good time to pick it up.

‘Alice’ and ‘Red Queen’ by Christina Henry… These are the two novels in her Alice in Wonderland retelling that I have been wanting to read since I saw Titan advertise the book covers. I love a good fairytale, but you cant beat a dark retelling. I am hoping to blitz through both of these novels this month as I can see myself getting gripped.

‘Duskfall’ by Christopher B Husberg… This is another arc that I was sent from Titan that I sadly never got around to reading before its realise date, but I am looking forward to reading this. It is another fantasy novel that I have been told is outstanding, so fingers crossed.

  1. I found Kindred Spirits to be a bit meh, too. I heard so much hype about Rainbow Rowell that I was excited to read it. But it didn’t really inspire me to want to read more of hers! x
